In 2022, Latin America’s governments, nonprofits 和 companies are all looking toward the future. At bc菠菜论坛, the future is zero waste—or in Spanish, "basura cero.今年, we have been able to collaborate with groups all over Latin America to plant the seeds of sustainability. The governments of Costa Rica 和 Chile have enacted groundbreaking producer responsibility policies.
USGBC 和 our Latin American Green Building Council (GBC) partners such as GBC哥斯达黎加 (GBCCR), 求职者的, GBC智利 have put together a fantastic lineup of conferences this year, in Mexico, 高露洁 和 泰勒的农场 have achieved the region’s first bc菠菜论坛 Platinum certifications.

Costa Rica is a global pioneer in green legislation. Their government has taken an aggressive approach to preserving their natural l和scapes. 值得注意的立法包括 禁用聚苯乙烯 (colloquially know as Styrofoam) 和 their 零废物填埋倡议. 哥斯达黎加也在进行 逐步淘汰所有一次性塑料制品. Much of the legislation that has come out of Costa Rica’s pledge to go zero waste took effect in 2021, we anticipate seeing the effectiveness 和 implementation strategies that come out of this initiative in the coming years.

Chile is also strengthening its sustainability commitments by enacting 第20号法律.920. The intent of this legislation is to bolster extended producer responsibility in Chile. Extended producer responsibility refers to a materials management strategy where multiple entities share responsibility for the recycling 和 safe disposal of the materials they introduce into the product chain.
By placing special emphasis on a select set of materials, 包括电池, 轮胎, 包装和包装, Chile intends for companies to take responsibility for any nonrecyclable materials they bring into the country. A multifaceted framework of legislation 和 infrastructure is needed to see the most effective implementation of this law. Waste management systems will need to be thoroughly fleshed out, both on the individual level 和 on the collective level.
Using bc菠菜论坛 to further the circular economy

GBCI墨西哥's partnership with Mexico’s green building council, 求职者的, has led to exciting progress for both green building 和 zero waste in the region. 6月, 求职者的 hosted a circular economy session for hundreds of attendees, who are now laying the groundwork for a zero waste future.

Another facet of growth we have seen in the past year is the bc菠菜论坛 certification of 高露洁 和 Taylor Farm’s supply chain in Mexico. 高露洁 has more than 30 facilities around the globe certified with bc菠菜论坛, 产于巴西, 厄瓜多尔和智利, 还有墨西哥的7家工厂. 在那里, its Mission Hills facility is certified at the Platinum level, the highest level of certification bc菠菜论坛 facilities can earn.
